Because we were the first owners of our home at 1352 Kappel Drive, we were also the first "landscapers". Can you imagine today's tree when it was first planted? Some families make marks on a door as their children grow. Mine was measured in my mind by this sweet little pine tree, or at least it was at that time. Everyone had their picture taken in front of our tree at some time or another.
Believe it or not, there was a time when I grew to be bigger than our tree. And then...all bets were off. I have a photo of me standing in front of the tree, but it's in France. I was able to find these shots here at 411. Then, there was this treasure I had never seen before. This shot below is of my brother Jim peeking out from behind the tree. Jim and I are only two years apart, so 1352 Kappel Drive was home to us for our major growing up years.
I'd often thought on many return visits, that I needed to go by Kappel. Once I did, I knew that I needed to take a picture of "our" tree. I didn't until just this visit.
It's height, strength and power are striking. We grew up together. I remember asking if we could take "our" tree with us to 411. It wasn't possible. Besides...we were going to have all these other huge trees on the huge 90x160 lot at 411. As much as I love 411, it is 1352 Kappel Drive that holds "our" tree and all of my warm and fuzzy childhood memories to be treasured.
Now, isn't that funny - my name is Kappel, so of course I wonder how your childhood road came to get the name of Kappel Drive - is there perhaps some Kappel living there (or was)?
love, bodil

Hi Bodil-funny because I think we did talk about this together in France when I found out your name. It's become a much more "infamous" area in these last weeks, huh? I don't know much about how the street was named. I'll see if I can discover anything for you. As I was writing this post, I had the urge to actually go back and hug "our" tree. I still might! Love to you and Niels-Laury and Sammie cat
