I began keeping a "good things" jar back in January of 2013, and have continued with it into 2014. Here in Ferguson, Mom came over from Hidden Lake Assisted Living on Friday to spend most of the weekend with me. On Sunday morning, we were waiting for Kat to come over to give her a ride back and then Kat and I were off for some "retail therapy" (that included a perfect pretzel event at Auntie Anne's at the Galleria).
I pulled out my "good things" jar to show Mom. We'd already talked about tiny steps that she could take that she would enjoy-no dice. I showed her the jar and suggested that maybe she could keep one, and every time she had fun or something good happened, she could write it down and put it in her jar. She said: "I don't have any good things." I read her a few of mine from this year. She seemed to enjoy it, but no dice again.
Kat had seen my "good things" jar and said she needs one. After our retail therapy, we found a number of jars around the house that would be perfect. Kat chose one yesterday and said: "Let's just make one for them and put it over there in their room. Whenever we're there, we'll put in one good thing. It can't hurt."
So, Kat has chosen her "good things" jar. We've chosen a special "good things" jar to take over to Mom and Dad at Hidden Lake that has to be easy to open for Dad to be able to use it. They are going to be decorated, pretty, and have their own pen and set of post-its to make it as easy as possible. We have one left over. That jar on the left is up for grabs. Any takers?
I have that exact same jar! What a great idea. I could use some good things these days.

I figure we all need all the good things we can get. I enjoy doing it and it keeps me more positive in the moment. Have fun with it! Love, Laury
