I've made a commitment to myself to make every effort when I'm in the states to live as close as I can to the way I live when I'm in France. It's difficult. Two of the things that I've been faithful to are: NO TV and NO CAR. TV has not been a problem in New Orleans. I live alone. Riding my bike, taking public transportation, and enlisting friends when necessary; has been easy in New Orleans. I don't need a car.
When Mom came for her "sleep-over" last weekend. She insisted that I bring the TV down from upstairs. It's now in the living room. I confess, I turned it on last night. I think it is going to be going back upstairs, or better yet; I just won't turn it on.
Now, Mom is insisting that I get a car. I'm having to continually say: "I don't want a car, Mom." So far, I've been able to do everything I need to do on my bike. In some circumstances, Kat has let me borrow her car. I'm fine without a car and don't want one. I don't know how many different ways I'm going to have to say "no", ( or maybe "NO") to my Mom. Every conversation includes some kind of car push. Being here for an extended period of time, requires a whole new set of boundaries and strategies. It's going to be quite a Mom Ride!
Even though the hills can be a little daunting, Ferguson is nicely set for bike riding. I rode up to Walgreen's yesterday to get my physical and TB Test. I got a few items at Aldi's, Shop and Save, and the Dollar Tree. Everything is close and easy to reach. I can get everything I need. I love the bike racks that you find throughout Ferguson...sweet, colorful, iron bikes. I saw the Ferguson "Jolly Trolley" parked in front of Walgreen's and wondered if that might be something for me to consider in a pinch, but I'll have to check into that.
This bike rack in Ferguson made me smile...more on that and my ride through Ferguson another day.
