Halloween promised us freezing temperatures here in Ferguson. We thought we were ready. The furnace and radiators had been cleaned and serviced earlier in the week. The heater kicked on and off a couple of times during the day on Friday. But then, around 8pm all systems were NOT go. 411 was in total darkness with Mom and I in two different rooms. I remembered where the candles were. Mom knew there were some battery powered lanterns (of all places) in the fireplace.
We made a few calls on my cell phone to see if anyone knew what was going on. The report from Kat and Tom was there was an outage of thousands and they expected the electricty to be back on by 9pm.
And, it was, but I was reminded once more that diversifying energy sources is always a good idea. The Chatette has a gas stove and I heat with the fireplace and gas and oil rolling heaters. Candles abound. When the rest of the world is just a bit stuck because they are all electric...we can stay warm and have a cup of coffee!
