Once I ventured out from 411 and then into downtown Ferguson for the first time on Friday afternoon; I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Ferguson Bicycle Shop was up, running, and undamaged. Somewhere between the Dallas flight and the return to 411, the key to my bike lock that was on my key chain must have fallen off. There may be another one in New Orleans, but I need my bike once Kat and Tom return from London so I just bit the bullet and bought another lock.
Although I'd planned to go to the Ferguson Post Office on my way home; the guys informed me that not only was the Post Office closed, but the drive through mail boxes had been removed as well. I confess: that thought had never crossed my mind and it should have.
I drove back home past the Post Office, through the parking lot at Aldi, up to Florissant Road and made a right at the light beside the Chinese Restaurant. Heading home, these artists brought tears to my eyes as I passed the Eye Doctor's Office. on the corner before the train overpass.
Look what they were doing! Painting and prettying up the plywood was such an excellent idea. By the time I was back into downtown Ferguson on my bike Sunday, artwork with a message was spreading everywhere.
I stopped and talked to some of the artists and discovered that the "I Love Ferguson" Office had free paint available to anyone who wanted to join in painting and prettying the plywood. I asked if you had to get permission, but no...just find a free spot and go to work. I wandered back up Florissant Road towards home walking my bike. Just about every boarded up storefront was in progress or competed!
I have many individual favorites I'll share with you over the next few days. Many brought tears to my eyes, but the one below took my breath away! Think about it!
