When Ron mentioned going to the St. Louis Cathedral for a "free" concert of the Lousiana Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday evening, I was in. But, that had been the previous week. Wednesday was rainy and cold all day, but we got a break in the rain around dinner time. At 6:30 on the dot, Ron and Wilson arrived and we headed down to the Quarter. We had no idea that this was a special production to honor the Spanish history of New Orleans. Not only did I learn a lot about our relationship with Spain; I was introduced to: Conductor Carlos Mibuel Prieto (Mexico); Baritone Damian Del Castillo (Andalusia); Organist Karol Mossakowski (Poland); Narrator Rafael R. Shabetal (Argentina); and, last but not least-Pianist Abdiel Vazquez (Mexico). Pianist Vazquez made my evening with his encore Intermezzo.
Walking back to the car, the glow of the production lingered. We agreed we were so happy we'd come-what a treat it had been. But then it was time for true confessions: "With the rain and cold, I could have just as easily stayed home and snuggled in with a book." This was one of those times when we were really happy that we'd gotten up and gotten out! Here's to more getting up and getting out...you never know what you'll be missing.
